Liverpool Acoustic returns to Folk on the Dock with two free music sessions and two special concerts

The award-nominated Folk on the Dock returns to the Liverpool waterfront over the August Bank Holiday weekend. Now in its second year this popular event – produced by Fit The Bill in association with Albert Dock Liverpool – features some of the best folk, roots and acoustic music from across the city and around the world.

This year’s lineup includes Moulettes, Lee Southall, Pilgrim’s Way, Alex Hulme, Geoff Higginbottom, Liverpool Shanty Kings, and many more. The music takes place at a variety of locations across Liverpool’s World Heritage Status waterfront.

As part of #FolkDock2017 Liverpool Acoustic will be hosting two afternoons of free music and two special concerts on Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th August 2017.

Liverpool Acoustic’s Graham Holland says: “We really enjoyed taking part in the first ever Folk on the Dock last year and jumped at the chance to be involved again this time round. We’re excited to be trying two new venues too, with the iconic Dr Martin Luther King Jr Building hosting our two afternoons and the famous Tate Liverpool generously supporting the two evening concerts.”

Afternoons

Liverpool Acoustic are taking over the Dr Martin Luther King Jr Building (formally Granada Television, by the Pumphouse pub) for two afternoons of live music from 1.00pm to 5.00pm. Entry is free, so why not pop along?

Saturday 26th August features an array of talent in the form of Lewis Massingham, Alice Nancy, Phil Daltrey, Sarah Jones, Billy Kelly, Gary Maginnis, Pete King, and Liz Owen.

Sunday 27th August sees performances from Rachael Jean Harris, Emilio Pinchi, Matthew Croughan, Persefomania, Three Minute Hero, Jenny Byrne, Derek King, and Thom Morecroft.

Evenings

Liverpool Acoustic are delighted to be hosting two very special concerts inside the cafe at the world-renowned Tate Liverpool. Tickets for each show are £8, available to buy in advance from wegottickets.com or on the door. Food will be available from when the doors open at 7.00pm through to 9.00pm, and the music kicks off at 8.00pm.

Saturday 26th August features Lizzie Nunnery and Vidar Norheim, with support from Shoes4Brakes

Lizzie and Vidar’s first album Company of Ghosts was nominated for Best Debut in the Spiral Earth Awards, and Radio 2’s Mike Harding listed it in his top 10 albums of the year. In 2012 they released their acclaimed second album Black Hound Howling, bringing together ballads of apocalypse with anti-capitalist anthems and beat poetry.

Lizzie has played across the UK, and in 2012 performed at Liverpool Philharmonic Hall and Belfast Waterfront Hall with The Irish Sea Sessions. She is also an award winning playwright.

Vidar has toured worldwide as a member of Liverpool’s alt pop unit Wave Machines and works extensively as a jazz and folk musician. In 2011 he was named as Norway’s most promising song writing talent.

Shoes4Brakes are duo Gareth Jones (guitar and lead vocals) and Simon Hadfield (Cajon and backing vocals). Together they perform catchy, upbeat songs guaranteed to make you smile! Since forming in 2012 the pair have gigged regularly in Liverpool and further afield, releasing their debut album The Winner Stays On in 2015. Shoes4Brakes are firm Liverpool Acoustic favourites and a perfect addition to Folk on the Dock.

Sunday 27th August sees Chester-based Jaywalkers with support from Vanessa Murray.

Vanessa Murray is a singer-songwriter from Liverpool who has been described as ‘a small girl with a big voice’. Her sophisticated and emotive songs have helped her win nationwide competitions and awards, and have captured the attention of many including Sandie Shaw who praised Vanessa’s musicality as ‘astonishing’, Paul Carrack who described Vanessa as ‘a great new artist” and Jo Dipple CEO of UK Music who said Vanessa’s songwriting ability was ‘incredible’. Vanessa is no stranger to Liverpool Acoustic having won the second annual Liverpool Acoustic Songwriting Challenge in 2012.
